Virtual Event Will Honor Turner Construction Company, Edison International, and The Los Angeles Dodgers and include Special Musical Performance by Boyz II Men
Los Angeles, CA – September 23, 2020: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is thrilled to announce U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States, as After Party Sponsor for the Los Angeles’ 2020 Los Angeles Builders Ball®.The annual fundraising event celebrates outstanding individuals and companies who share Habitat LA’s commitment to uplifting and transforming the landscape of Los Angeles. This year marks Habitat LA’s 30th anniversary serving the greater Los Angeles community. The COVID-19 global pandemic has proven a hard year for many, but with the support of U.S. Bank, Habitat LA has remained committed to providing families with safe, stable housing. All funds raised from this year’s virtual event will help Habitat LA continue to revitalize communities and empower low-income families and individuals by building the resilience needed for a brighter future.
The free event on Thursday September 24, 2020 at 6:00pm will be open for the first time to the entire community as Habitat LA honors three distinguished partners – all of whom have helped create long lasting change in our community: Turner Construction Company, Edison International, and The Los Angeles Dodgers. The program will focus on community resilience and the ability to overcome adversity by turning negative challenges into positive outcomes. Since 1990, Habitat LA has worked to build resilient communities with the backing of long-standing partnerships such as U.S. Bank.
“Habitat LA is proud to be a long-time partner with U.S. Bank as their gracious support over the years extends across our homeownership and home preservation programs, as well our signature special events,” said Erin Rank, President and CEO, Habitat LA. “In fact, U.S. Bank was our inaugural supporter for the Los Angeles Builders Ball in 2013 and has supported every year since. It is truly an honor to celebrate this evening with them by our side.”
Since 2003, U.S. Bank has united alongside Habitat for Humanity to positively impact generations of families to take steps towards financial resilience; providing enhanced financial resources, education and support to create healthy communities. U.S. Bank has donated over $60 million and 334,000 volunteer hours to support communities, with over $3 million and 4,500 volunteer hours directly to the greater Los Angeles area.
“U.S. Bank is proud to be a sponsor of the Habitat LA Builders Ball through our ‘Community Possible’ platform to help make a meaningful impact in Southern California,” said Carl Jordan, U.S. Bank Executive Vice President and longtime Habitat LA Board Member. “At U.S. Bank we invest our time, resources, and passion in economic development by supporting efforts to create safe affordable housing and vibrant communities. We are happy to work with Habitat LA to help families achieve the stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future.”
The affordable housing crisis has impacted Los Angeles, the nation’s second largest city, for many decades. According to the 2020 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count Report, Los Angeles saw a 12.7% rise in homelessness, before the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic. This year’s report revealed that two-thirds of unsheltered adults experiencing homelessness were homeless for the first-time last year, and almost 60% cited economic hardship as the cause. By 2030, the report proposes Los Angeles County will see an 103% increase amongst those 65 and older. With a decrease in recent state funding for affordable housing, partnerships with U.S. Bank and others help provide communities with critically needed support to help families withstand financial hardships and transform for the better.
Habitat LA partner families possess the strongest pillar of resilience – courage. Habitat LA families have shown the courage to not only address challenges but to also take responsibility for their future. Habitat LA offers families a hand up not a handout, because the most important part of resilience, is sustainability. Resilience does not stop with the purchase of an affordable home, but instead it continues for generations to come.
