AmeriCorps Week 2018

Americorps Week 2018Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) celebrated AmeriCorps Week March 11-17, 2018. AmeriCorps Week is a celebration of all things AmeriCorps, from the programs and organizations that make this national service initiative possible in thousands of locations across the country, to the members who have committed to “get things done” since the program’s inception in 1994.

Each year during AmeriCorps Week, we recognize the commitment of AmeriCorps members and alumni by highlighting the extraordinary impact AmeriCorps makes across our nation every day. AmeriCorps Week is a time to salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their service, to thank AmeriCorps community partners, and to communicate AmeriCorps’ impact on communities and on the lives of those who serve.

Twenty-four years ago, Habitat for Humanity partnered with a new national service program, AmeriCorps, to place 122 individuals in five locations to support Habitat’s work. Every year, over 500 AmeriCorps members serve with Habitat throughout the U.S. Through this partnership, more than 10,148 Habitat AmeriCorps members have served 109,830 individuals and engaged more than 3.7 million volunteers.

In 2017, 590 Habitat AmeriCorps members helped to serve more than 5,830 individuals across 32 states and the District of Columbia, contributing 900,000 hours of service; mobilizing more than 226,000 volunteers to build, weatherize or repair homes; and raising $1.7 million in cash and in-kind resources for local house building and community development efforts.
