By building and preserving affordable housing through new construction, renovations, and home repairs, Habitat LA is transforming communities throughout Los Angeles County. GENERAL DESCRIPTION


Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is seeking a qualified and dedicated candidate to perform hands-on construction work under the guidance of site leadership. This position supports building and repair efforts in wildfire/disaster-affected areas, as well as general home repair projects as needed. The ideal candidate will prioritize safety at all times, actively model and teach basic construction skills to volunteers, and ensure that all work meets Habitat for Humanity’s quality standards. This is an entry-level construction role, offering a valuable opportunity to gain experience while contributing to meaningful community recovery efforts.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Complete daily construction and repair work as directed by site leadership, ensuring all work aligns with Habitat for Humanity’s established quality standards and project expectations.
  • Instruct and support volunteers in learning and completing construction tasks, regardless of skill level. Ensure all safety procedures are clearly communicated and consistently followed on the job site.
  • Always represent Habitat LA professionally by effectively communicating with homeowners, volunteers, staff, and other site visitors.
  • Build and refine construction skills through hands-on experience while developing leadership abilities by guiding and working alongside volunteers in a supportive and collaborative environment.

SUMMARY OF JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, 75 lb. physical lift test, background check, authorization, and a driving record check.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to perform job duties, a valid CA Driver’s License, and meet the state-required amount of personal automobile liability insurance.
  • Familiarity with, or interest in learning, basic construction and home repair techniques.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, proper safety practices and consistently apply them on the job site.
  • Patience and communication skills to instruct volunteers at various skill levels in performing construction tasks.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions from site leadership.
  • Ability to interact respectfully and clearly with team members, homeowners, volunteers, and site visitors.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various conditions.
  • Passion for helping others and contributing to meaningful community recovery efforts, especially in disaster-affected areas.

WORK CONDITIONS:


  • Frequently it is required to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. alone, team lift 100 lbs.
  • Frequent movement around the office/warehouse/ReStore may be necessary.
  • Regular work with computers, including keyboards, mouses, and screens.
  • Working conditions consist of high temperature-controlled workspaces.
  • Noise levels are moderate to loud depending on the work area.

COMPENSATION


Pay Range: $22/hr.- $25.00
