Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA), with the support of our presenting sponsor City National Bank, raised nearly $300,000 during the 2019 Hollywood Build two-day event last month to help address the pressing need for affordable housing in the greater Los Angeles through permanent housing solutions.

The 2019 Hollywood Build attracted more than 300 volunteers and featured the Entertainment Industry Build on Friday, June 7th and Power Women, Power Tools® on Saturday, June 8th.  Entertainment industry executives, celebrities, corporate leaders, government officials, faith groups, and community stakeholders lent their time and talent to the special build event.  Volunteers worked side-by-side with current and future Habitat LA homeowners to help build a 10-home community currently underway in Culver City.

Lindsay Dunn, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager of City National Bank’s Real Estate Division, said the 2019 Hollywood Build is part of an ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity. “We are incredibly happy to be part of a mission that drives hope, fulfills dreams, and brings families together for stable and secure futures. We share a deep passion for commitment and community, and we understand the far-reaching needs and effects of investing in people through Habitat for Humanity.”

On the first day of the event, entertainment industry talents put down their scripts and picked up tools to help support during the Entertainment Build. Hollywood for Habitat volunteers performed interior and exterior work on houses in various stages of construction.

Entertainment volunteers in attendance included:
Tonya Banks, Actress, Little Women LA
Vanessa Bell Calloway, Actress, Shameless
Ashley Fink, Actress, Glee
Mikaela Hoover, Actress, Guardians of The Galaxy
Cookie Johnson, Philanthropist/Author
Charley Koontz, Actor, CSI Cyber
Kate Linder, Actress, Young & The Restless
Lisa LoCicero, Actress, General Hospital
Rory O’Malley, Actor, The Book of Mormon
KiKi Shepard, Actress/Model, Showtime at the Apollo
Glynn Turman, Actor/Director, The Red Line
Gregg Wayans, Actor, Wayans family

By day two, Habitat LA did a “scene change” and enamored the build site and the volunteers in sea of pink for the Power Women, Power Tools build day. The power women (and men too!) built fully functional playhouses; constructing the walls, door, windows, trim, the roof, and painting the structure. The completed playhouses were donated to hard-working partner families, Habitat LA ReStores and community partners and local nonprofits.
