“We are so thankful to the students who chose to spend their spring break building hope, lives and communities,” said Erin Rank, president and CEO of HFH GLA. “Their selfless decision to serve our partner families during their off-time is inspiring and a testament to the giving spirit of this generation. We are so proud of how the Collegiate Challenge has endured for twenty-five years!”
The program, which invites students to spend one week working with Habitat affiliates to build homes and improve communities, started in 1989. Since then, more than 230,000 college and high school-aged students (16-25) have volunteered during their spring break to help build or rehabilitate homes, donating nearly $24 million to Habitat affiliates. Across the U.S., 178 Habitat affiliates hosted spring break groups in 2014. The groups donated more than ($1.5 million) to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes and improve communities.
