Remembering Chapel Hill Shooting Victims for their Great Service

Last week, the world lost three kind souls due to an act of senseless violence in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Deah Barakat, 23, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and her sister Razan Abu-Salha, 19, were gunned down in their home by a neighbor, Tuesday morning.

Deah, Yusor and Razan were exceptional young adults who dedicated a great deal of their time to service in their community. Whether they were feeding the homeless, or raising money to provide dental services to Syrian refugees in Turkey, these three college students were always searching for a way to give back and make a difference in the world.

Deah, Yusor and Razan were also Habitat for Humanity volunteers. Habitat Wake County President & CEO, Kevin Campbell, credits Deah’s brother with helping the affiliate form the Interfaith Build program.

“It is truly a beautiful light in the world when people with strong convictions to the truth of their own faith intentionally come together with others of different faith traditions and backgrounds to proclaim that love is triumphant here and now and that judgment and exclusion are not burdens that God places on any of us,” said Campbell.
