Festivities Scheduled for Saturday, April 11
LOS ANGELES (March 11, 2015) – Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) will celebrate its newest ReStore location in Torrance with a Grand Opening event on Saturday, April 11 from 9am – 3pm, although the store will remain open until 6pm. Shoppers looking for a good deal and to support a great cause will have the opportunity to win door prizes, enter into a raffle for a top-of-the-line grill and participate in free, on-site workshops. The Torrance ReStore, which is the third of its kind in the greater Los Angeles area, is conveniently located at 18600 Crenshaw Blvd.
Habitat LA ReStores are best described as “home improvement thrift stores”. Donations of new and gently used furniture, home décor, building materials, appliances and much more are accepted and then sold to the general public at reduced prices.
“We have so many loyal South Bay volunteers and ReStore donors, so it is exciting to now have a Torrance location to serve this community, which is so supportive of Habitat LA,” says Erin Rank, Habitat LA president/CEO.
With a steady supply of ever-changing inventory donated by studios, major retailers, contractors and individuals, shopping the ReStore truly becomes a treasure hunt. The grand opening event will feature on-site workshops providing inspiration for how to use or upcycle ReStore merchandise.
The proceeds from Habitat LA’s Torrance, Norwalk and Bellflower ReStores support home building and repair projects for low-income, hardworking families and individuals in greater Los Angeles and around the world. In addition to acting as a self-sustaining funding source for Habitat LA, the ReStores are also good for the environment. Since Habitat LA’s first ReStore opened in 2004, close to 7,000,000 lbs. of material has been diverted from local landfills.
Habitat LA is also encouraging spring cleaners to give their gently used items a second life by donating them to the ReStore. Schedule a pick-up online donatetohabitat.org.
