Kabbalah Centre Has Partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles to Build New Habitat LA Homes in the City of Downey

A Celebratory Build Day will take place during Passover on Thursday, April 13

Los Angeles, CA — April 12, 2017The Kabbalah Centre has pledged over $480,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) to help build four homes in our six-home development, Pueblo de Luz, currently underway in the City of Downey.  To continue the partnership celebration, which kicked off with a build event in December 2016, volunteers from the Kabbalah Centre will spend the day building homes on April 13, 2017, during Passover.  This incredible support from the Kabbalah Centre will help to transform the lives of the future homeowners, as well as the Downey community.

The Kabbalah Centre has long been a supporter of the work of Habitat for Humanity, previously helping to transform a community and build homes in Sri Lanka. Now they are entering into a meaningful partnership with Habitat LA to make a similar impact in the City of Downey.

“Affordable housing is an issue that the Kabbalah Centre takes very seriously and we are so thankful that they have chosen to partner with Habitat LA,” said Erin Rank, President & CEO, Habitat LA. “We are extremely proud to be celebrating Passover with Kabbalah Centre volunteers to serve six future homeowners in the City of Downey.”

Passover marks the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, a transition from darkness to light. This story represents a striking similarity to our future homeowners’ journeys, who are served through Habitat’s work. Often times, before finding Habitat they are living in crowded conditions, with little room or support. When they enter into a partnership with Habitat, it represents a light being shone on the family, a life-changing transition from substandard, unaffordable housing to decent, affordable living situations.

“Habitat recognizes the transformative impact that a safe home can make,” said Jeremy Kraut-Ordover, Vice President, Individual Giving, Habitat for Humanity International. “Kabbalah Centre volunteers are helping six hardworking future homeowner families create their own exodus from poverty, and write their own stories of strength, stability and self-reliance through safe and stable shelter.”

The Downey neighborhood will include six, two-story townhomes with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each unit will also include a number of green features such as; drought-tolerant landscaping, energy-efficient heating systems, insulation made from recycled content, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and solar-ready systems.

This project is part of Habitat LA’s Building a Greater Los Angeles campaign with a goal to invest $100 million by 2020 into revitalizing neighborhoods and increasing access to affordable homeownership opportunities. This investment will also help strengthen the local economy, creating healthier and more affordable homes for local, low-income families and individuals.
