Throughout the month, shoppers will support Habitat for Humanity’s national Home is the Key campaign and help families unlock their futures
Los Angeles, CA – April 13, 2018: For many people across the U.S., access to an affordable home remains out of reach, creating barriers to affording necessities such as food, education or medical care. In Greater Los Angeles County well over half of all Angelenos pay more than 30% of their income towards rent, and as a result, many of our neighbors find themselves having to choose between groceries and rent on a monthly basis. Additionally, nearly 25% of residents live below the poverty line, and many live in substandard housing conditions. To address this critical need locally and across the country, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is joining Home is the Key, a national campaign by Habitat for Humanity International aimed at highlighting the need for affordable housing and raising funds to drive lasting change.
As part of the Home is the Key festivities, Habitat LA is celebrating the opening of its third ReStore, in the Mid-Wilshire area, marking the first ReStore location in Los Angeles proper at 1071 S La Brea Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90019. The new ReStore allows more Angelenos the opportunity to “shop for a cause”, with access to deep discounts on new and gently used home goods and building materials.
Grand Opening events will take place Earth Day Weekend – Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22 – which will include a ribbon-cutting, family activities, food trucks and more. Habitat LA ReStores are located in Bellflower, Torrance, and Los Angeles, and local shoppers can donate to the in-store cause marketing campaign all month long.
“We have seen firsthand how an affordable home can play a key role in helping families and individuals thrive,” said Erin Rank, President and CEO, Habitat LA. “We invite our community to show their support by donating, volunteering or advocating with us throughout April so we may partner with more homeowners and build strong futures together.”
The ReStores help strengthen the local economy, creating healthier and more affordable homes for low-income families and individuals. Since 1990, Habitat LA has built and renovated more than 1,300 homes locally and worldwide. Proceeds from L.A. area ReStores support Habitat LA’s mission, including the Building a Greater Los Angeles campaign goal to invest $100 million by 2020 into revitalizing neighborhoods and increasing access to affordable homeownership opportunities.
