Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) and Lowe’s hosted a special Women Build, in celebration of National Women Build Week, May 5 – 12. This year marked the 11th anniversary of National Women Build Week, sponsored by Lowe’s, which challenges women in every state to devote at least one day during the week prior to Mother’s Day to create affordable housing in their communities.
More than 50 female Lowe’s Heroes volunteers built alongside future homeowners and popular blogger, Lalah Delia, founder of VibrateHigherDaily.com.

During the lunch program, volunteers learned more about Habitat LA’s model for homeownership and fun facts, such as: A Habitat home is completed somewhere in the world every 50 seconds. They also heard about the journey of one of the partner homeowners, Eugenia Chavez, whose house they were helping to build.

The volunteers worked on a four-home neighborhood in the Washington neighborhood of Long Beach, an area in which Habitat LA has committed to invest $20 million as part of its Building a Greater Los Angeles campaign. The power women completed some of the finishing work needed to bring the homes closer to completion, including trenching for irrigation, installing and weather-proofing fencing, and installing siding. These four new Habitat homes are scheduled for completion this summer.
Between May 5th– 12th, more than 18,000 volunteers, including Lowe’s Heroes volunteers, built Habitat for Humanity homes in 300 communities throughout the U.S. View photos from this empowering Women Build here.
