Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) launched its first-ever Home Builders Blitz in the greater Los Angeles area early in the morning of April 29.
Habitat LA is partnering with four of the nation’s top construction companies to build four new homes in just 11 days for future Habitat homeowners in the Willowbrook area (119thStreet) of the city of Los Angeles.
The Home Builders Blitz is a result of a first-time collaboration between the County of Los Angeles, Habitat LA and four renowned construction firms, who are mobilizing local contractors and suppliers to build affordable homes for four hard-working families in record time. Participating builders include Clark Construction, Gilbane Building Company, Turner Construction Company, and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. Additionally, more than 80 subcontractors and supporters will be donating their time.
“Habitat LA has been working with the builders on the planning of the Home Builders Blitz for over a year,” said Erin Rank, Habitat LA’s President and CEO. “We are so excited to have these houses built in an expedited period of time by the nation’s leading builders who have been so dedicated throughout the whole process.”
Over the next eleven days, more than 100 skilled tradespeople will work from sun up to sun down each day in partnership (and a bit of competitive spirit); donating the necessary building materials, supplies and hours of labor for the event to help change the lives of the partner families, who will also help build their homes.
Habitat LA often brings together individual and group volunteers to ensure that everyone can live in decent, affordable and sustainable housing, and this Home Builders Blitz is no different. Many of the skilled tradespeople on this project have worked in the same field for years, but never together.
