Habitat LA Collaborated with NewGround and MAJIC for Home Repairs in Compton

In a remarkable showcase of unity and community service, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) joined forces with NewGround and Muslim and Jews Inspiring Change (MAJIC), a youth-led faith council, for a home preservation project in Compton, CA. This event, which took place on Sunday, March 3, 2024, brought together volunteers and leaders from both organizations to perform crucial home repairs for a deserving family in South Los Angeles. Amidst the ongoing crisis in the Holy Land, this collaboration underscored Habitat LA’s commitment to bringing together diverse groups to support local families in need.
“For over ten years, Habitat LA has actively participated in a national interfaith initiative, aiming to bridge faith communities through service, advocacy, and fundraising. This project is a testament to our commitment to fostering community development and putting faith into tangible action,” commented Chris Untiet, Habitat LA’s Director of Faith Relations.
The partnership between these organizations reflects a shared vision for an America where Muslims and Jews can forge meaningful relationships based on mutual respect, open communication, and collaborative efforts. This dynamic approach to engagement transcends historical, theological, and political barriers, emphasizing that while conflict is a part of life, it can be overcome through solidarity and shared purpose. The Habitat LA project served as an exemplary platform for bringing this vision to life.

NewGround and MAJIC
NewGround is proud to convene MAJIC (Muslims and Jews Inspiring Change),a high school leadership council. An Advisory Board of Muslim and Jewish communal professionals have taken the lead role in working with NewGround to help shape this opportunity for teen leaders in Los Angeles.
