Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles to Host 2016 Veterans Build Presented by The Albertsons Companies Foundation and The Vons Foundation November 11-12

Volunteers and Veterans will commemorate Veterans Day by building six new homes in Bellflower

Los Angeles, CA (November 7, 2016) – In recognition of Veterans Day, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) will bring together hundreds of volunteers and veterans to build six new affordable homes in the City of Bellflower. One of these homes will be built in partnership with Jose Jimenez, a U.S. Army Veteran, who is looking forward to purchasing his home with his family. The Veterans Build will take place November 11-12 between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm each day and participants will include veteran volunteers from the MVAT Foundation, Team Rubicon, The Albertsons Companies Foundation and The Vons Foundation, USC Students Veterans Association, California State University Long Beach, UCLA’s chapter of Student Veterans of America and Veterans Resource Office.

The Veterans Build is a cornerstone event for Habitat LA highlighting its veteran outreach initiative, Habitat for Heroes. This initiative is aimed at building and repairing homes for U.S. veterans and their families as well as engaging them in Habitat LA’s work Building a Greater Los Angeles. Since 2011, thousands of veterans have volunteered and nearly 100 have been served through Habitat LA’s home preservation and homeownership programs.

“Nearly one million veteran homeowners are severely cost burdened.  Through our Habitat for Heroes program, we are committed to lessening this burden by providing much needed access to affordable homeownership, critical home repairs and community work that helps them bridge the gap between military and civilian life.” says Erin Rank, President& CEO of Habitat LA. “I am looking forward to this year’s Veterans Build and honoring the men and women who have served our country by building a better future for us all.”

The Albertsons Companies Foundation and The Vons Foundation have been working with Habitat LA since 2012 to serve veterans and strengthen communities throughout greater Los Angeles. This is the second year that The Albertsons Companies Foundation and The Vons Foundation have served as title sponsor of the Veterans Build, providing both financial and volunteer support.

“One of the best ways to thank our local veterans is to ensure that their key needs are met. This one important act of gratitude will foster their ongoing success and provide the dignity and respect they deserve,” said Lori Raya, president of Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions and Habitat LA board member. “With so many veteran employees and customers, it is important that we take time to honor their dedication and serve them as they have served us.”

The 2016 Veterans Build will take place in the City of Bellflower. Photo and one-on-one interview opportunities with Habitat LA representatives, veteran homeowners and veteran volunteers will be available. Media RSVP is mandatory to receive the exact address.
