Habitat on the Hill 2015

Habitat LA joined 250 Habitat affiliates from throughout the U.S. for Habitat on the Hill last week. Habitat on the Hill is Habitat for Humanity International’s annual advocacy week held in D.C. Erin Rank and Veronica Garcia Dávalos represented our affiliate. They participated in meetings with nine legislators representing the greater Los Angeles region about Habitat’s housing priorities and need for greater affordable housing opportunities.Washington National Monument 2015. Speakers at the conference included HUD Secretary, Julian Castro; U.S House Representatives’ Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri and Aaron Schock of Illinois; Chief White House Correspondent for CBS News and Correspondent at Large with the National Journal, Major Garret; and Habitat for Humanity President and CEO, Jonathan Reckford.

Larry Gluth, Habitat for Humanity International’s (HFHI) Senior Vice President for U.S. and Canada, presented the second annual Habitat for Humanity Advocacy Awards. HFHI recognizes outstanding advocacy initiatives of Habitat affiliated organizations.  The awards are designed to recognize and highlight the exceptional advocacy work being implemented in the U.S. and around the world.  These awards honor those affiliated organizations working to creatively and successfully achieve housing sector impact.  Top Global and U.S. Advocacy Award Winners included Habitat for Humanity Bulgaria, Habitat for Humanity Brazil, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and the University of Minnesota Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (North Carolina), Habitat for Humanity California—and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.
