Los Angeles, CA (April 10, 2015) – Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) will commemorate the 10th and 11th homes in greater Los Angeles to be built in partnership with Thrivent Financial. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of Thrivent Builds, a multi-year partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity. Over the last 10 years, Thrivent Financial has invested more than $200 million and built more than 4,000 homes for families in need across the United States and around the world. Here in greater Los Angeles, Thrivent has invested $1.9 million as part of the $200 million.
This year, Thrivent Financial is the full house sponsor for a home located at 1917 East 126th Street in the City of Compton. The Lopez family has been selected and qualified as the partner family for this home. Currently, Romero Lopez and Aracely Perez reside in a one-bedroom apartment in the City of Huntington Park with their three children: Kevin, Kenya and Ken. Romero Lopez works as a machine operator for a manufacturing company in Compton. The Lopez family is looking forward to owning a home that will provide a safe and stable place for their children, away from gangs and prostitution.
Thrivent Financial is also the half house sponsor of the Loza family home located at 11720 Compton Ave. in the City of Los Angeles. Other important partners on this home include Grifols, Inc., the other half house sponsor, as well as the Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles (CDC) who generously donated this vacant property to Habitat LA for development into a single-family residence. Juan and Gloria Loza currently reside in a rundown apartment in the City of Norwalk with their three sons: Nestor, Alejandro and Saul. Juan Loza supports his family by working three jobs as a banquet server in LA and Long Beach. The Loza family has hopes that a home of their own will provide their sons with an environment to support their educational and professional aspirations in the fields of math and science.
The kickoff celebration for both of these homes will take place on Tuesday April 14, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In addition, the construction of both of these homes will be supported by Christian Churches from across greater Los Angeles, which will provide volunteer and financial support.
