Spring Cleaning Supplies
Cloth rags Avoid using paper towels and instead use cloth rags that can be washed and reused many times. You can make your own cloth rags by cutting an old shirt into squares.
A bucket Use a clean and sturdy bucket that will be long lasting. Using a bucket will help you monitor how much water you are using.
Fabric mop Avoid disposable mop heads and use a fabric mop that can be washed and reused many times.
Old toothbrush Use an old toothbrush to scrub those hard-to-get-to cracks, crevices, or corners.
All natural cleaning products You can find eco-friendly cleaning products at most stores or you can also try making your own DIY household cleaner. Most common household cleaners are toxic and contain harmful chemicals that can affect you and your family. You can make your own household cleaner with items you may already have around your house such as: baking soda, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or olive oil.
Once you have your supplies ready, take note on some of our cleaning tips to stay eco-friendly!
Spring Cleaning Tips
REDUCE Simplify your space and get rid of items you no longer use or want. Go through your spaces that accumulate a pile of items. Be honest with yourself and decide whether it’s time to let some things go.
REUSE Once you have made a pile of things you no longer want, go through it another time. Look for any items that you may be able to reuse again for another purpose. There are lots of fun DIY projects to repurpose unwanted household items.
RECYCLE Help keep the Earth clean by safely disposing your items. Separate paper and glass recyclables and check the plastic items to make sure they are recyclable. Recycle electronics properly and make sure to safely dispose of anything that isn’t recyclable or trash-friendly.
DONATE Lastly, separate items that somebody else might need. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Donate your unwanted items like home décor and furniture to our ReStore! Visit www.shophabitat.org for more info.
Make spring cleaning a fun experience! Play your favorite playlist and pace yourself. Set yourself to eco-friendly standards in honor of celebrating Earth Day all month long. Not only will you be helping Earth out by going green, but you will be making positive impacts on your life as well!
