Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) significantly expanded our Playhouse Build Program this fall, assigning several full-time staff members to the project, and enlisting the support of several major Southern California institutions.

The advertising agency Deutsch kicked off the festivities at their Playa Vista headquarters on September 6. Some 200 team members from all departments rolled up their sleeves to paint and assemble six playhouses. The playhouses will be donated to partner families with young children or sold at Habitat LA ReStores to raise additional funds.

A week later, a crew of 20 volunteers from Delta Air Lines painted and assembled a playhouse to promote their annual Habitat LA projects that Delta is sponsoring in South Los Angeles this fall. Over the course of just six weeks, Delta volunteers will build a home for a hard-working family.

Volunteers at Mattel spent September 18 building six more playhouses, Barbie® Pink was the color of the day, but cool blues and bright yellows adorned multiple houses. The creative minds at Mattel decorated the houses with brilliant suns, lighthouses, seagulls flying over sailboats bobbing in the ocean, and even a Jackson-Pollock-esque wall of spattered paint.
