Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles benefits from Thrivent Builds with homebuilding efforts
Los Angeles, CA – February 28, 2014: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) has been awarded $137,500 from Thrivent Financial to build a home in Long Beach, California. This will be the ninth home built in in partnership with Thrivent in greater Los Angeles. From the national partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed more than $200 million and more than four million volunteer hours.
The funding is part of an ongoing partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity International, called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity. Through the partnership, Thrivent members, Habitat affiliates and others partner with families across the U.S. and around the world to provide affordable housing and stronger, generous communities.
“We are thrilled to be hosting this year’s Thrivent Builds project in our back yard again this year. This will be our 9th build in the greater Los Angeles Area and we continue to look forward to the great working relationship we share with Habitat,” said Thrivent Wealth Advisor, Sarah Auernhammer.
Thrivent Financial is committing $12 million nationally to the 2014 partnership. From the partnership’s inception in 2005 through 2014, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed more than $200 million and more than four million volunteer hours across the globe.
The funding will be used to serve families and mobilize volunteers through three programs within the Thrivent Builds partnership: Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Worldwide and Thrivent Builds Repairs.
- In the local area, one Thrivent Builds Home will be built this year. Since the beginning of the partnership and including the homes for 2014, more than 2,000 Thrivent Builds Homes will have been built across the country.
- Thrivent Builds Worldwide allows Thrivent members and others to give financially and volunteer their time as they travel to international or domestic locations for a week or more at a time to build Habitat homes and experience other cultures.
“We’ve been partnering with local Lutheran churches for over 13 years and they have been a great partner to Habitat,” said Erin Rank, president and CEO, HFH GLA. “Their work worldwide is a phenomenal accomplishment and we feel so blessed to have their support right here in greater Los Angeles. We see first-hand how their support is changing lives and building communities.”
Thrivent Financial remains the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International.
