Volunteers Put Faith into Action to Rehabilitate Two Lynwood Homes  Los Angeles, CA – November 26, 2012: The need for affordable housing brought together volunteers from the faith traditions of Baha’i, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, the Religious Society of Friends and Unitarian Universalism for the first Interfaith Build Week in Habitat for Humanity of Greater L.A.’s (HFH GLA) history. Volunteers from eight faith traditions built alongside each other November 14-17th to complete renovation projects on two homes being rehabilitated in Lynwood, which will be sold to qualified, low-income families. Kickoff Event Planned for Saturday, June 16th Los Angeles, CA – June 12, 2012: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) will host a kickoff event on Saturday, June 16 to celebrate the first day Thrivent Financial volunteers will build on the 2012 Thrivent Builds home located in Lynwood, CA. Twenty Lutheran Congregations, from greater Los Angeles, will contribute 50% of the volunteer hours and 10% of the funding needed to build the new home. The Royce & Real-Munoz Families Received Keys to their Homes During a Dedication Ceremony Saturday, Dec. 3rd Los Angeles, CA – Dec. 9, 2011: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) celebrated the completion of its first two-home development in the City of Lawndale, on Saturday, Dec. 3rd. The homes have been built to the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED® Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards to ensure energy efficiency and affordability for the homeowners. Sponsors of the homes include the City of Lawndale, the Lawndale Redevelopment Agency, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Beach Cities Friends, Help the Homeless Help Themselves and local Lutheran Congregations. 74,000 Nails will Help Build Hope, Lives and Communities Los Angeles, CA – October 3, 2011: During a ceremony on Saturday, October 1, 2011, A Compassionate Response to Homelessness and Poverty Group presented Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) with 74,000 nails. Draughan Family’s Home is One of Two Completed During Event Los Angeles, CA – May 04, 2011: On Saturday, April 30th, Eric, Shemika and Jordan Draughan received the keys to their Habitat for Humanity home during a special home dedication ceremony. The home in Lynwood is one of two renovated homes that were completed during Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ (HFH GLA) first annual Lent Build. The forty days of building on faith kicked off in March on Ash Wednesday and is a testament to all that can be accomplished when congregations of all denominations and sizes come together to build. Local Volunteers will Celebrate MLK Day by Building Affordable Housing  Los Angeles, CA – January 13, 2011: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) will commemorate Dr. King’s birthday with a day of service in his honor on Saturday, January 15th. From 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, local volunteers will be building at several sites throughout the greater Los Angeles area in order to honor the man who dedicated his life to serving others. Part of the celebration will include a brief lunch program featuring excerpts from Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. The Castillo Family Received Keys in a Home Dedication Ceremony Tuesday, November 16th Los Angeles, CA – November 16, 2010: Today, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) and Delta Air Lines employee volunteers attended a much-anticipated home dedication ceremony for the Castillo family. REALTORS® proud to give back to the community; Young Professionals also raising funds for scholarships TORRANCE, Calif. – October 24, 2010: For the second year in a row, members of the South Bay Association of REALTORS® volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) to build a home in Long Beach for a family in need of a home to call their own. The Long Beach build site consists of four homes, one of which will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for a family living with a disability. This “build day” was hosted by the South Bay Young Professionals Network (SBAOR YPN).
