7th Local Home Sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a Dream Come True for a Hardworking Single Mother Los Angeles, CA – June 20, 2012: This past Saturday, the local Lutheran faith community, Thrivent Financial, the City of Lynwood and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) gathered to celebrate the beginning of construction on the 2012 Thrivent Builds home in Lynwood. Yadira Luna is purchasing and building the home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. As part of the Thrivent Builds partnership, 20 Lutheran congregations are contributing 50% of the volunteer hours and 10% of the funding needed to build Luna’s home. The Royce & Real-Munoz Families Received Keys to their Homes During a Dedication Ceremony Saturday, Dec. 3rd Los Angeles, CA – Dec. 9, 2011: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) celebrated the completion of its first two-home development in the City of Lawndale, on Saturday, Dec. 3rd. The homes have been built to the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED® Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards to ensure energy efficiency and affordability for the homeowners. Sponsors of the homes include the City of Lawndale, the Lawndale Redevelopment Agency, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Beach Cities Friends, Help the Homeless Help Themselves and local Lutheran Congregations. Ten PV Solar Electric Systems will Help Partner Homeowners Live Green & Save Green Los Angeles, CA – November 15, 2011: Recently, GRID Alternatives hosted its annual “Solarthon” at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ (HFH GLA) Imperial Highway neighborhood. These ten homes are the first affordable LEED® certified homes in the City of Lynwood. Funds will Help the Organization Provide Nearly 30 Low-Income Families and Individuals with Homeownership Opportunities Los Angeles, CA – October 5, 2011: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) has received a $250,000 grant from the Los Angeles-based W.M. Keck Foundation in support of its Long Beach Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. In addition to the W.M. Keck Foundation’s generous contribution, this initiative is also being supported by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 (NSP2) as well as the City of Long Beach and dozens of corporate, civic and faith-based partners.  This initiative will provide 29 low and very-low income families and individuals with simple, sustainable and affordable housing in the city of Long Beach, California over the next two years.
