Corporations Coming Together to Care for a Neighbor in Need

In Los Angeles County, nearly 25 percent of residents live below the poverty line, and many live in substandard housing conditions. To address this need, the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) Home Repair Program aims to alleviate critical health and safety issues for our neighbors who are elderly, disabled, veterans, natural disaster victims and/or low-income homeowners.

Habitat LA partners with homeowners each year as funding becomes available, and 30 percent of our funding comes in the form of gift-in-kind donations from corporate partners, who give their time, skills and products.

Recently, three generous local companies came together in the city of Norwalk to help 88-year-old homeowner Joanne Lister who is struggling with her medical conditions and disabilities being exacerbated by the inability to regulate the temperature in her home.

Thanks to the generosity of corporate partners Ferguson HVAC / RUUD, Southland Heating and Air Conditioning and iPermits, Mrs. Lister will now be able to better care for her health by staying warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Watch the video to learn more about Mrs. Lister’s story.

Habitat LA is so grateful for support from donors who make in-kind gifts.  Every home we build requires approximately 150 pounds of nails and 400 two-by-fours. With the average Habitat house consisting of 1,200 square feet and three bedrooms, these numbers add up fast—so donations of building materials from corporate manufacturers is vital to our work! Habitat LA is interested in support that includes skilled labor, building materials, furniture, appliances and more to help make our work possible.  As you see in Mrs. Lister’s story, we have become experts in making creative connections and enjoy working with everyone who has something to contribute to our work of Building a Greater Los Angeles!

Thank you Ferguson HVAC /RUUD, Southland Heating and Air Conditioning and iPermits!
