Qualified Homeowners may Receive Free Home Repairs within Months through Local Habitat for Humanity Program

Los Angeles, CA – October 13, 2010: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) is seeking applicants in Hawaiian Gardens for its A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) home repair program. ABWK provides zero-cost, much-needed home repairs for homeowners who are unable to make them on their own due to physical or financial limitations. The program is a good alternative for residents who are currently enrolled in the city’s Beautification Program, which has a five-year waiting list. Representatives of HFH GLA’s Homeowner Relations Department will conduct a presentation at the Hawaiian Gardens Community meeting taking place Monday, October 18, 2010 at 4pm in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 21815 Pioneer Blvd. (map).

HFH GLA encourages residents currently enrolled in the City’s Beautification Program to apply for the ABWK program, where work is scheduled to begin as soon as January 2011. HFH GLA partners with low-income, hard-working families and individuals throughout greater Los Angeles to build affordable housing, which improves lives. The ABWK program increases the safety and appearance of homes and communities through exterior painting, landscaping, and making minor exterior repairs on existing homes for low-income homeowners and seniors. Repairs are provided for homeowners who struggle to maintain their homes due to age, disability and family circumstances. ABWK repairs are performed by an all-volunteer workforce in just a few days, which helps HFH GLA serve more families and individuals throughout Greater Los Angeles.

Interested residents may learn how to apply for ABWK during the Hawaiian Gardens Community meeting. Representatives of the Homeowner Relations Department, Renne Sanchez and Magna Bahm, will present the organization’s mission and homeowner programs, and provide an overview of ABWK, including the type of work performed, before and after pictures of ABWK projects, eligibility requirements and much more. Additional information and downloadable applications for the ABWK programs, available throughout Los Angeles, may be found online
