Construction Training

Volunteers are critical to the success of our organization’s mission so we make substantial investments in their training and development as well as their education about affordable housing issues. Please find the opportunities and resources available to committed volunteers and partner families at the Housing Center for Excellence.

What:
A six-session training course that teaches potential Crew Leaders how to lead teams of volunteers and how to understand and follow Habitat for Humanity’s procedures. Crew Leaders assist at the construction site by supervising small groups of volunteers. They teach and work directly with sponsors, unskilled volunteers and homeowners. (Please note: this is not a course that teaches construction skills.)

Who:
Skilled volunteers interested in committing six days per year to serve as a Crew Leader at a Habitat for Humanity construction site.

Prerequisites:
1. Extensive construction skills and experience or have completed Cornerstone Training.
2. Volunteer on a Habitat construction site as least three times before the training begins.
3. Commit to attend all six training sessions.

Note: Only 12 openings are available for each session and admission to the class will be on a first come, first served basis. Slots are held upon receipt of the $50 fee.

Where:
Housing Center for Excellence
969 Sandhill Ave.
Carson, CA 90746

When:
Training is offered several times each year. Each training consists of six sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6-9pm. Participants must commit to all six sessions.

Why:
Habitat for Humanity has more volunteers than crew leaders to lead them on a regular basis. By committing to become a trained crew leader, you will be helping Habitat move families into homes more quickly and enable community members to have a life changing volunteer experience.

Cost:
Individuals pay $50 to participate in the course, $25 of which is refunded upon the successful completion of the course.
