How to Apply for Homeownership through HFHGLA

How the Program Works

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) will purchase foreclosed and vacant properties in selected communities in order to help families realize the American Dream of homeownership.

HFH GLA is currently accepting applications for homes in Long Beach, Lynwood and South Gate (en Español). In order to qualify, interested applicants must meet the following basic eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate need.  Homebuyers must be low-income, earning between 30-80% of area median income for Los Angeles County.  View Income Eligibility Chart below.
  • Must have good credit (no recent bankruptcies, liens or judgments).
  • Must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles by: 1) Completing 200 Sweat Equity Hours, 2) Complete an 8-hour HUD-certified pre-purchase homebuyer education workshop and an 8-hour Habitat Education Program, as well as additional courses through HFH GLA’s comprehensive homeownership education program.
  • Must be able to make a small down payment.
  • Must be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States.

IMPORTANT: The minimum and maximum annual income amounts listed vary per development and/or city.  Please check eligibility requirements for each development prior to applying.

  2. Attend a Habitat orientation.
  3. Submit an application, along with necessary documents and a small processing and credit check fee.
