Vice President of Development
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) seeks a Vice President
for Development to design, oversee, and implement a fund development plan for
the organization. As part of the senior management team, reporting
directly to the President & CEO, the Vice President for Development will
lead a team of development professionals and support staff in a coordinated
effort to raise philanthropic revenue and will also assist directly in
developing prospect cultivation and solicitation strategies, will cultivate and
solicit major gifts from key prospects, and serve as a key liaison to the Board
of Directors and fundraising related committees.
Qualities & Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have strong experience in a senior fund raising
position and have demonstrated leadership abilities and consensus building
skills, fund raising management and strategic planning experience, and a proven
track record in developing and administering a fund raising program. In
addition, the successful candidate will:
- Possess the ability to lead inspire and supervise development
professionals in a coordinated effort, as well as the capacity to motivate
and collaborate successfully with a dedicated Board of influential civic and
corporate leaders.
- Coordinate fund raising efforts for an integrated campaign encompassing
annual operations and special projects to strengthen the organization's
capacity, and work collaboratively with the President and CEO and Campaign
Leadership Cabinet in this effort.
- Work in constructive partnership with the other members of Habitat's
senior management team, demonstrating an understanding of the maturity
needed to collaborate with peers, managers and volunteers.
- Exhibit energy, dedication and organization.
- Be an effective representative of the organization with strong verbal,
written and interpersonal skills.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles will consider applicants with
college degrees who have a clear track record of success in cultivating and
soliciting major support from foundations, corporations and individual
philanthropists. The successful candidate must have at least seven years
of experience in progressively responsible fund raising positions, including
direct responsibility for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual
gifts of $25,000 or more. The applicant should also look forward to
playing a major role in conveying Habitat's mission, participating in the
community and forging effective partnerships with representatives from the full
range of Los Angeles constituencies. Local knowledge of the Los Angeles
philanthropic community a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, direction and management to the development department
of the organization.
- Lead and motivate the Board of Directors, inspiring them to serve in a
strategic capacity as the organization's most powerful fundraisers.
The Vice President for Development will be expected to work closely with
fundraising committees of the Board and Campaign and provide training,
support and orientation on fundraising techniques as needed.
- Determine departmental long-range goals addressing dollars to be raised
annually, benchmarks for growth in dollars raised and relationships, targets
for each area of giving and other development issues.
- Ensure that the development staff is aided by a thorough annual operating
plan in reaching the department's goals.
- Enrich effective working relationships with the Board of Directors and its
committees, staff colleagues, and volunteers to build a strong network of
committed and continuous support.
- Serve as a major gift fundraiser by identifying, cultivating, soliciting
and participating in strategy development and stewarding selected major gift
prospects from all constituencies, corporate, foundations and
individuals.
- Work with key trustees to manage their portfolio of high-end
prospects. Work closely with the President & CEO and Board
leadership to identify Board candidates capable of getting or giving major
gifts. Plan and oversee the annual Board Campaign.
- Oversee Development staff in the implementation and management of programs
for individual annual fund giving, and corporate, foundation and government
giving, as well as a program of comprehensive stewardship and development
fundraising and cultivation events, meeting the goals of the
department.
- Oversee the management of the department's budget and the annual
evaluation of the development department's programs including cost
analysis.
- Serve as an articulate, enthusiastic and visible spokesperson for the
organization.

Director of Programs & Volunteer Services
Habitat for Humanity of
Greater Los Angeles seeks an outgoing, high-energy Director of Programs and
Volunteer Services. Responsibilities include program development,
management and training, leading a force of more that 5,000 dedicated volunteers
and supervision of staff and interns. Must
have a bachelor's degree, 5 + years experience in the non profit management and
program development and possess excellent communication skills. Exposure
to Raiser's Edge and corporate sponsorship a plus. This is a full-time
position that requires some evening and week-end work and offers a competitive
benefits package. Reports to VP of Advocacy and Community Partnerships.
