We need to do more than swing hammers and build houses to make a dent in the
poverty housing crisis. Far reaching policy changes are necessary to
ensure that all families have a safe, decent place to live.
Did you Know That...?
- Los Angeles ranks LAST in housing affordability of major cities in the
United States.
- 73,702 people are homeless on any given night in Los Angeles County.
- Over 10,000 of Los Angeles' homeless are children under the age of 18.
- California housing prices are 178% higher than in the entire U.S. - or 247%
higher than in the rest of the U.S. excluding California, and rising almost
three times as fast.
- 95 million Americans (one of every three families) have housing problems
including paying too much of their income for housing, overcrowding, poor
quality shelter, and homelessness.
- Lack of affordable housing contributes to increased congestion, health
problems, less competitive school performance, crime and overall deterioration
of community.
